Repainting of the DMMU (2) 2009

Following the end of the Santa By Train special event held throughout December 2008 the railway is lucky enough to have a 3 month breathing period to carry out many essential maintenance issues and either continue with existing projects or commence new ones. The DMMU certainly falls into the category of continuing an existing project having been started by Alan Coe and his team back in 2006. Being the main passenger train throughout the running season has meant that apart from ongoing mechanical maintenance there has been precious little time to continue the superb repaint already undertaken on the Shepherdswell Platform side and cab ends of this great vehicle.

However Alan and his team have utilised the good weather afforded to us in the early part of 2009 to erect scaffolding as a temporary platform to continue the huge task of stripping down , filling , priming and repainting of the remaining side. The Eythorne side as we like to call it as it is this side that passengers embark and disembark from at Eythorne Station.

The picture below left taken on a glorious Spring day in March 2009 show Alan hard at work filling and sanding down the bodywork on Unit 101660 . Half of the unit has already been primed in preparation for at least 3 coats of paint

The Picture below right shows what a magnificent job has been carried out on Unit 101682 with the new paintwork gleaming in the sunlight. The only paint still to be applied on this carriage is the gloss black for the underframe.
