Repainting Of The DMU (1) 2006/07/08
The repaint of the DMU is an ongoing project which began in late 2006 and is a massive task undertaken brilliantly by some of the railway's most dedicated volunteers. Hampered by so many factors including having to undertake all work in the open with the inclement British weather and working around the fact it is our frontline train operating on most running days, the results so far show just what can be achieved. We have listed the ongoing improvements as chronologically as memory allows !!
The DMU is much loved by staff and passengers alike and although it may not possess the same magic as a steam engine it gives a fantastic driver's eye view to all those travelling aboard. A big well done to all the dedicated members restoring this classic engine unit now celebrating it's 57th birthday.
September - November 2006

January - March 2007
The huge task of rubbing down the paintwork and undercoating begins on the Shepherdswell platform side. Shown below is the working party of Alan Coe, Wilf Watters and Josh Watkins
April 2007
Amazing progress is taking place with BR Blue livery applied to the carriage of unit 101682 and the cab rubbed down and undercoated. The picture bottom right shows the DMU passing over the North Bank Crossing
May 07 - June 08
The DMU is really taking shape now with both carriage units repainted on the Shepherdswell platform side as well as the cab on unit 101682 and the cab on unit 101660.Work is now ongoing on the other side of the carriages to complete the transformation, no mean feat considering there is no platform on the other side and work has to be undertaken on ladders !! Shown below left is the DMU on our Wigmore Lane extension on the Easter Bunnies special event in March 2008 and below right is the cab of unit 101660 looking resplendant at Shepherdswell station despite the gloomy weather
