Permanent Way Hut

Ron Norris & Alan Coe, two men synonomous with virtually every project at our railway are somehow also finding time to repair and restore the Permanent Way Hut situated near the old EKR to the mainline spur. This hut which is a grounded box van unit has been in dire need of TLC for some years now with the doors jamming, the roof collapsing and the floor rotting. As with all of their projects Ron & Alan have seen this as a great challenge rather than a great obstacle and have re-roofed the hut, re-floored it,repaired the doors and put up racking and shelving inside to house the tools needed to maintain the track. Not only this the exterior is being rubbed down and re-painted to transform this vital workshop. Below are a couple of pictures showing the inside of the new roof which with the curve needed shows that a great deal of skill was involved and the exterior of the hut receiving the first coat of paint. we will update this page with the finished project in due course.

Taken in March 2009 the results of all the hard work are clearly shown. Lights have been added both to the interior and exterior and one of our new working members Martin Ravell has done a fantastic paint job to completely transform this valuable storage facility. Credit to all those involved as well for removing all of the sleeper chairs, bolts etc that had become an eyesore around this area and the clear walk to the viewing area can now be seen
