Miniature Railway
Our fantastic 5 inch gauge raised Miniature Railway has been running for over 10 years and has carried literally thousands of happy children and adults in that time. Run today by Wilf and Don, 2008 has seen a huge advance in this facility with the running track being extended to twice its normal length and curving around trees to add that extra touch of magic to the ride. Extra passenger carriages have also been added to reduce waiting times and to allow the whole family to ride at the same time whilst a re-paint of the station building with added nostalgic posters completes the upgrades. The Miniature Railway never charges for rides although optional donations are always welcome and the railway owes a huge debt of thanks to these two gentlemen for whom entertaining the children is the only reward they need.
Unless adverse weather conditions dictate otherwise the Miniature Railway is open on all running days including the Santa By Train Specials.
Below left the picture shows the track leaving Shepherdswell Miniature Station and curving gently towards the back of the picnic area in this beautiful location. Top left of the picture you can just make out the extended track on its blue support pillars emerging from the trees.
Below right the extended track appears from the trees and runs down on the far side of the picnic area. This extension, completed in early 2008, has doubled the running track of this very popular attraction.
This picture below left shows one of our resident locomotives modelled on the class 33 Diesel and carrying the identification number 33008 with one of the 2 passenger carriages it pulls regularly on running days. A fantastically reliable and smooth loco.
The picture below right shows one of the railways mainstay locos - Simplicity ,modelled on a North British Diesel and carrying the identification EKR 7
