Buffet Refurbishment
When the buffet was first established way back in 1995 few could have anticipated just how popular and busy this would become. For years dedicated volunteers have toiled in cramped conditions to serve up excellent meals both hot and cold to an appreciative throng of visitors not to mention supplying the food for numerous parties held by private hire. Now one of the railways finest stalwarts Clive Wallace who has worked tirelessly for the EKR since the earliest days of preservation together with regulars Neil Jackson and Roger Bradshaw have set about refurbishing this facility to give the buffet that much needed boost in terms of space and convenience and presenting a wonderful appearance to visitors both new and regular alike. With the exterior refurbished in early 2008 and an outside seating area created ( See Buffet Platform link on projects page ) the refurbishment of the interior will represent a massive step forward for the East Kent Railway and will be ready in time for the 2009 season starting at Easter.
The pictures below show the work in progress in February and March with a central aisle being created for preparation of cold meals , new worktops being installed to the rear to give greater hot food preparation, the hand wash basin and food cleaning basin being installed adjacent to each other to the right, new shelving under the worktops , new plumbing , new wiring etc.. the list is seemingly endless.
A huge well done to Clive,Neil & Roger for undertaking this project , come and see all the good work for yourself this year and enjoy one of the superb meals Clive regularly serves.
Thanks to a superhuman effort from Clive the buffet was finished in time for the Easter Event in April. Below the pictures show the massive improvement with the new sink installed and plumbed in, the central aisle completed with built in storage, new worktop to rear for the preparation of hot food, new front counter complete and re-tiling of broken floor tiles.
A huge well done to Clive for his continued dedication to the railway - the result has done the railway proud
