Ben Andrews

27th March 1977 - 23rd June 2009

A brave, couragous, kind hearted young man sadly passed away after a long battle with cancer. Many members of East Kent Railway that knew Ben would be able to remember all of his great kind wisdom that he gave, he was always having a laugh not only with members, but also the public. He was able to give a splenderous view as well as give great guidance on many tasks. Always known to be a fighter, Ben never let anything get him down and always tried to do anything he possibly could. Even in the recent period before being taken to the Pilgrims Hospice in Ashford, he tried to make an appearance at the Railway, even though he was available to observe ,his wisdom and great bravery was amongst everyone who was working. The funeral was held in his home town and one hymn that was sang will always stick in my mind always giving a great pleasure for Ben,

I DANCED IN THE MORNING WHEN THE WORLD WAS BEGUN

AND I DANCED IN THE MOON AND THE STARS AND THE SUN

I CAME DOWN FROM HEAVEN AND I DANCED ON THE EARTH

AT BETHLEHEM I HAD MY BIRTH

(CHORUS)

DANCE, THEN, WHEREEVER YOU MAY BE

I AM THE LORD OF THE DANCE SAID HE

AND I'LL LEAD YOU ALL, WHEREVER YOU MAY BE

AND I'LL LEAD YOU ALL IN THE DANCE SAID HE

I DANCED FOR THE SCRIBE AND THE PHARISEE

BUT THEY WOULD NOT DANCE AND THEY WOULDN'T FOLLOW ME

I DANCED FOR THE FISHERMAN, FOR JAMES AND JOHN

THEY CAME WITH ME AND THE DANCE WENT ON

(CHORUS)

DANCE, THEN, WHEREEVER YOU MAY BE

I AM THE LORD OF THE DANCE SAID HE

AND I'LL LEAD YOU ALL, WHEREVER YOU MAY BE

AND I'LL LEAD YOU ALL IN THE DANCE SAID HE

I DANCED ON THE SABBATH AND I CURED THE LAME

THE HOLY PEOPLE SAID IT WAS A SHAME

THEY WHIPPED AND THEY STRIPPED AND THEY HUNG ME ON HIGH

THEY LEFT ME ON A CROSS TO DIE

(CHORUS)

DANCE, THEN, WHEREEVER YOU MAY BE

I AM THE LORD OF THE DANCE SAID HE

AND I'LL LEAD YOU ALL, WHEREVER YOU MAY BE

AND I'LL LEAD YOU ALL IN THE DANCE SAID HE

I DANCED ON A FRIDAY WHEN THE SKY TURNED BLACK

IT'S HARD TO DANCE WITH THE DEVIL ON YOUR BACK

THEY BURIED MT BODY AND THEY THOUGHT I'D GONE

BUT I AM THE DANCE AND I STILL GO ON

(CHORUS)

DANCE, THEN, WHEREEVER YOU MAY BE

I AM THE LORD OF THE DANCE SAID HE

AND I'LL LEAD YOU ALL, WHEREVER YOU MAY BE

AND I'LL LEAD YOU ALL IN THE DANCE SAID HE

THEY CUT ME DOWN AND I LEAPT UP HIGH

I AM THE LIFE THAT WILL NEVER NEVER DIE

I'LL LIVE IN YOU IF YOU'LL LIVE IN ME

I AM THE LORD OF THE DANCE SAID HE

In my opinion Ben and his spirit of wisdom will never go as long as we the members of the railway keep it going strong
